FINLAND - UNIVERSITY OF EASTERN FINLAND AT KUOPIO

1st Symposium - 2016

The Universities of Eastern Finland and Utah, together with the International Federation of Social Work (IFSW) and the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) had the pleasure in welcoming you to the inaugural symposium on Theories and Practices for Refugee Resettlement and Integration, 2016, Kuopio, Finland. This symposium was the first in a series of themed symposiums building on an emerging network of European, British, Australian, Asian, African and US academics committed to developing frameworks for global social work education, research, theory and practice.

Refugee resettlement and integration is one of a number of emerging global issues, including population movement across borders, civil conflict and violence, ageing and intergenerational relations, technology and social justice and environmental sustainability, which are placing new demands as to the relevance of social work. The question of how to research, theorise and operationalise the notion of global social work in response to issues such as mass migration, refugee resettlement and social integration is the theme of this inaugural symposium.
